Stores & Manufacturers Hit By Fabric Shortage

This country’s uniform manufacturers and fabric retailers report a major shortage of supplies from overseas as a result of international logistics and shipping problems.

The shortage of fabric has forced the ministry of education to temporarily relax its school uniform policy.

Students will be allowed to wear polo shirts and jeans until uniforms are available.

Dean Straker, the co-Managing Director of Barbados Industries Limited, a uniform manufacturer, tells Starcom Network News, that the shortage is significant.

Mr. Straker expects the problem to be resolved in a couple of weeks.

Managing Director of Woolworth, Martin Bryan, confirms major difficulty in sourcing uniforms and materials from overseas.

Managing Director of Abeds Stores, Eddie Abed says his company has also had to resort to the more expensive option of air freight to get material in.

Mr. Abed says his company expects weekly air shipments starting this weekend.
