Government planning major drive to bring vendors/micro entrepreneurs into formal economy

Government is undertaken a major drive to bring many of the vendors and small and micro entrepreneurs and businesses into the formal economy, including the NIS and tax net.

Minister of Energy and Business Development, Kerrie Symmonds, emphasised the importance of this effort while delivering the opening address this morning at the first in a series of Business Fair Expos being put on by his ministry.

Mr. Symmonds described the expo as the first instalment in what he believes will be the biggest ever effort at business service development in Barbados.

And he said that his ministry will also be seeking to educate small and micro business operators about why it’s important they become part of the formal economy.

Mr. Symmonds insisted there would be no witch hunt but believes business people need to be part of the formal system.
