St. Michael fire leaves 17 homeless

A St. Michael family of seventeen people has been displaced by a fire that destroyed a property just after midnight.
The police say the blaze occurred about 1230 am at a wood and wall constructed, two storey residence located at Phillips Road, St. Stephen’s Hill, Black Rock.
The house had several separate living quarters, each separately self-contained and which housed seventeen family members comprising eleven adults and six children, ranging in age from one to fifteen years old.
The main structure was destroyed and the rest suffered water damage.
Three fire tenders and 12 fire service personnel responded and extinguished the fire. The property was reported to be insured.
