Police getting tough on motorists who are still using cellular phones while driving

October 30, 2019

More than a year and a half after a ban on using cellular phones while driving went into effect in Barbados, the police have complained that people are openly flouting the law and appear to be instituting a crackdown.

From February last year, an amendment to the Road Traffic  Act banned the holding, manipulating, talking on, or using, a cellular phone while driving with anyone found guilty of violating this provision of the law facing a two thousand dollar fine or 18 months in jail or both.

But on this morning’s traffic report on Voice of Barbados, the force’s Sargeant Seibert Johnson noted that motorists were still openly flouting the law and warned they will be dealt with.
