Thorne pledges to resolve DLP “crisis”

Opposition leader Ralph Thorne describes the current infighting in the Democratic Labour Party as a national crisis that he insists must be resolved in the interest of the country.

Mr. Thorne was speaking during a news conference at the Opposition leader’s office at Hinks Street in the city, flanked by his newly announced executive assistant, Dr. Derek Alleyne and Opposition Senator Ryan Walters.

The opposition party’s President, Dr. Ronnie Yearwood and the General Secretary, Steve Blackett were not in attendance.

Mr. Blackett has called for Mr. Thorne’s expulsion from the party while two party members have filed no confidence motions against Dr. Yearwood, Mr. Blackett and the party’s executive council.

Mr. Thorne spoke of the need to resolve the divisions in the party.

Mr. Thorne says differences and rivalries in political parties are nothing new and urged his party and the country not to be distracted by the DLP issues.
