Winston Scott Polyclinic Nurses Walk Out

Nurses and other staff at the Winston Scott Polyclinic have walked off the job in protest over a series of issues including the environmental conditions at the Jemmotts Lane, St. Michael facility.

One of the nurses complained to Starcom Network News about what she said was mold and termite droppings in the building. She claims staff have been falling ill.

She also says the staff lack adequate resources with which to work.

Another staff member says the environmental issues date back seven years and have still not been resolved.

Officials of the ministry of health were due to meet with the Winston Scott staff today to discuss their grievances.

General Secretary of the National Union of Public Workers, Richard Greene, who was on location, said the staff have had enough and decided to take a stand.

He says some of the conditions the nurses have to work in are inappropriate and could impact the delivery of health care.
