Crash Triggers Appeal for Motorists to Give Way to Emergency Vehicles

A three-vehicle collision in which two fire officers were injured and a fire truck totalled has triggered an appeal by officials for motorists to give way to emergency vehicles.

The accident occurred at the Government Hill traffic lights as fire officers responded to a house fire in Bridgetown.

Chief Fire Officer Errol Maynard provided an update at the scene.

Mr. Maynard appealed to motorists to yield on the approach of emergency vehicles.

This point was reinforced by Minister of Home Affairs, Wilfred Abrahams, who was also at the scene.

He believes the outcome of the collision could have been worse if the driver of the fire tender had not taken evasive action.

Mr. Abraham says he has been worried about the potential for such collisions and has previously raised the issue with both the Fire Chief and the Police Commissioner.

Minister of Home Affairs, Wilfred Abrahams.
