Poultry Plan Amidst Price Hike

The price of poultry to increase slightly from next month, as a hike in the cost of animal feed takes effect.

The price of poultry in Barbados is to increase slightly from next month following a hike in the cost of animal feed that went into effect last week.

Meantime, plans are being made to grow the local industry with talks underway about producing sausages and burgers using poultry from local farmers.

These were among the outcomes of a meeting between Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Indar Weir, and egg and poultry producers and other stakeholders including Pinnacle Feeds.

In spite of the increase, producers were said to be very upbeat about the future of the sector with production and sales increasing.

Efforts are also being made to have the local manufacturing company purchase more local poultry for production of sausages and other items.
