Tax change hikes price of new gas/diesel vehicles

The price of new gasoline or diesel vehicles has gone up by between five and 20 thousand dollars from this month due to government’s removal of a rebate that had been in place for several years.

President of the Barbados Automobile Dealers Association, Mark Hamilton, tells Starcom Network News the rebate was discontinued earlier this month.

The change doesn’t affect hybrid or electric vehicles.

He notes that it only applies to dealers of new cars and will also help to encourage motorists to switch to hybrid and electric vehicles.
