“Specifics Please”, The Call re The Budget

Finance Expert Professor Justin Robinson is concerned about what he sees as a lack of details in the budget on critical issues such as ways to grow the economy.

Professor Robinson, a Pro-Vice Chancellor and Professor of Finance at the University of the West Indies, was speaking during a Barbados Chamber of Commerce panel discussion on Prime Minister Mottley’s recent budget presentation.

Professor Robinson believes finding ways to grow the economy must be a key priority and praised some of the measures announced by government.

But, he wants to hear the specifics.

He highlighted other initiatives with which he agrees and which the country needs to get more detail on.

Meantime, the need for more specifics from government is also a major concern for Chairman of the Barbados Private Sector Association, Trisha Tannis.

Mrs. Tannis noted government’s challenge to the private sector to double their investment in the economy but stressed the urgent need to make it easier to do business in Barbados.

She says the business community also needs more information on which to make decisions.

She, too, referred to the plan to reform state-owned companies.
