A teachers’ union head is growing increasingly worried about what she sees as a general disregard for law and order and a breakdown in parenting.
The result, she says, is an upsurge in bad behaviour and violence in schools.
President of the Barbados Secondary Teachers Union, Mary Anne-Redman, was speaking to Starcom Network News against the background of series of brawls and a recent knife threat that resulted in a secondary school being locked down.
Ms. Redman points out that she had warned about the trend as far back as 2019 when a 16 year old student was fatally stabbed.
But Ms. Redman believes the problem runs deeps.
