Pensioner Reginald Best lost his home and possessions when the wood and concrete house went up in flames just after midnight.
The fire service says they got the call about 17 past midnight and responded with three tenders and nine officers to the blaze at Berbice number 1, Fitts Village, St. James.
Mr. Best tells Starcom Network News he was asleep when the fire stated.
