STORM WATCH: 11:00 pm update || Abrahams wants public off roads

Minister of Home Affairs, Wilfred Abrahams, tonight made an urgent plea for Barbadians to get off the roads. He says the county can expect rainfall and gusty winds by 1 am.

At 11:00 PM the center of Tropical Storm Elsa was located near latitude 11.8N longitude 55.9W or about 260 MI (420 KM) east- southeast of Barbados.

Maximum sustained winds are near…50 MPH…85 KM/H with higher gusts. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles (220 km) mainly to the north of the center. At this time, predictions indicate that winds are likely to increase from as early as 1/2 AM with the stronger winds likely to start from 4/5 AM Friday morning, 2nd July 2021.

Elsa is currently moving towards the west-northwest (290 degrees) at 26 MPH (43 KM/H). An even faster motion towards the west-northwest is expected over the next 48 hours. On its current forecast track, the center of tropical storm Elsa should pass about 20 miles (33 km) to the south of Barbados on Friday morning.
