Franklyn wants changes at GIS

A major shake-up could be coming at both the girls and boys sections of the Government Industrial School, following an investigation into a scandal at the reform institution.

This indication from a Government Senator after Opposition Senator, Caswell Franklyn told the Senate of a series of alleged instances of abuse and brutality. He called for the sacking of the leadership of the industrial school.

Speaking during the estimates debate in the Upper Chamber, Senator Franklyn made allegations of systemic abuse and alleged that staff who tried to complain were victimized.

Government Senator, Dr. Crystal Haynes also expressed shock and outrage at the events at the institution and predicted that Home Affairs Minister Wilfred Abrahams would take firm action.
