Water relief promised to the North

The Barbados Water Authority says two desalination plants are to be set up in the north to help fix water supply problems to areas there including Boscobelle, St. Peter where some residents complain of severe water problems for the past six months.

The BWA’s Director of Engineering Charles Leslie, speaking on VOB’s Getting Down to Brass Tacks call-in program blamed the problem on rising salt levels in water wells due to the previous drought. That made shutoffs necessary.

Mr. Leslie says if the recent rains continue there should be improvement in the water quality in the supply wells and that will allow pumping to be increased.
