The National Conservation Commission (NCC) is exploring the possibility for legislation to give lifeguards the power to detain people who refuse to obey their instructions.
NCC Acting General Manager, Ryan Als says while lifeguards can advise people where not to swim, they cannot stop them from doing so.
He was speaking to the media following the closing ceremony for operation SOS Summer Programme this morning.
Mr. Als says there’s a need for more lifeguards and equipment, such as jet skis which can help them to save more lives.
