The Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations criticises the lay-off process at the state-owned BAMC.

The Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados, CTUSAB, is accusing the state-owned Agricultural Management Company, BAMC, of breaking a commitment to continue discussions on the retrenchment exercise and wants the process halted until further discussions are held.

CTUSAB General Secretary Denis Depezia is claiming that when the Sugar Industries Staff Association met late last month with Labour Minister Colin Jordan they were promised that talks on the layoffs would continue.

But Mr. Depeiza is arguing that instead, the discussions were discontinued and the workers issued retrenchment letters. He wants a return to the bargaining table.
