Government extends COVID-19 public health emergency

Parliament has extended Barbados’ COVID-19 public health emergency until the end of August as Minister of Health and Wellness, Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic warns that despite Barbados recording no new local cases for about a month, the danger is not yet past.

He was speaking just before the House of Assembly approved the extension on Tuesday, 23rd.

The health minister noted Barbados’ success in containing the spread of COVID-19 and praised all those who contributed.

But he stressed that there’s still a risk of imported cases while warning that the country needs to remain on guard.
