There’s a new political party in Barbados, the Conservative Barbados Loyalist Party, CBL, led by attorney at law and social activist, Corey Beckles.
Mr. Beckles tells Starcom Network News that the party which will be officially launched at a news conference on Saturday, supports traditional, conservative social values.
A statement by the party’s Vice President Anthony Hinds says that the face of politics in Barbados has changed considerably since 2015 and Barbadians can no longer afford to be distracted by partisan politics considering what he says is the magnitude of the serious domestic and international issues currently facing the nation.
He adds that Barbados is also at a stage, as it was in the last government, where the only opposition in parliament is a former member of the ruling party who crosses the floor in his second term.
Mr. Hinds says he believes that Barbados as a nation already has existing the suitable infrastructure, and in the right hands, is in a prime position to effect real change for its people both at home and abroad.
He states that it is against that backdrop that the Conservative Barbados Loyalist Party was formed.
The statement says the party is first and foremost conservative and, secondly, the party is committed and loyal to the social, economic, political and health interests of all Barbadians.
According to Mr. Hinds, the CBL members will operate as working friends of all other political parties within the country, who are genuinely interested in effecting positive change but will not be satellites of any established political party.
