A man has been shot by police and officers have recovered a gun in an operation at Kendal, St. John.
Starcom Network News understands that officers on patrol around 7:30 p.m. last night saw a group of men near a shed in a wooded area just off the main road.
Our information is that when the patrol stopped, someone allegedly fired off a weapon towards the police officers.
We understand that the officers returned fire, and the assailants ran off.
Sources tell Starcom Network News that an 18-year-old from the district apparently ran home and reported to family members that he had been shot by police.
The injured man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment via a private car.
He suffered a graze to the chest.
One firearm was recovered by the police at the scene of the shooting and the injured man was taken into custody after being discharged from the hospital.
Residents in the area said they only heard one gunshot, and are denying claims by police that they were shot at.
Daniel Elcock, the Mother of the shooting victim, recounted hearing about the incident.
Starcom Network News understands that a senior police officer is being assigned to investigate the case.
We also learned of shots fired in a police operation at Flint Hall, St. Michael, but further details are sketchy.
