Shortage of Some Pharmaceuticals

The Barbados Drug Service admits to a shortage of some critical medications and blames global supply issues.

Director of the Service, Delores Mascoll, spoke on the issue after a member of the public with a heart ailment complained via VOB’s Down to Brasstacks call-in program that for the past few weeks he has been unable to obtain from a government polyclinic medications that he urgently needs.

Ms. Mascoll says the service is urgently trying to source the medication that is used for heart ailments and to prevent strokes,

Ms. Mascoll disclosed that there is also difficulty sourcing a type of cholesterol medication and said it appears to be the result of global supply challenges.
