Barbados has recorded its first road fatality for the year.

A male driver was killed when the motor car he was driving struck a utility pole and overturned at the junction of Farrell’s Road and the East Coast Road, St. Andrew around 4:14 this afternoon.

The police said the pole and live electrical wires were down rendering the scene dangerous.

Personnel from Barbados Light and Power Company were responding to the scene. The driver died at the scene.
