Severed BAMC Workers Promised Payment of Money Soon

Agriculture Minister Indar Weir promises that fervent efforts are being made to get money for severed BAMC workers into their accounts as soon as possible.

He told Starcom Network News this evening that the matter was even at the time being worked on urgently.

Some of the former state-employees have been telling Starcom Network News they hope the money hits their bank accounts before weekend as Christmas will be rough without it.

The Barbados Agricultural Management Company was officially privatized this week and scores of staff were handed severance letters on Monday with the indication that vacation and pay in lieu of notice money would be disbursed.

One of the former BAMC employees, whose voice we have disguised, explains the dilemma.

He says some of the now unemployed people are waiting on that money to purchase their Christmas groceries.

Some of the former BAMC workers are so upset about the situation that one of them, former BAMC tractor driver Carl Holder, accompanied by his wife, drove to the offices of Starcom Network to vent his frustration.

He claimed that money seemed to have been deposited in some people’s credit union accounts but that the transactions appeared to have been reversed.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Indar Weir, promises the money will be paid and is being treated with urgency.
