Juvenile Suspect In Custody for Stabbing Death

A juvenile suspect is in custody being questioned in relation to the weekend stabbing death of a 16 year old school boy.

Starcom Network News understands that several other individuals are being sought for questioning into relation to the confrontation that led to the death of the fifth-form student of the Alexandra School.

The victim was stabbed multiple times during an altercation just before 9pm on Saturday near the Sandy Crest medical facility at Sunset Crest, St. James.

He was given emergency treatment at Sandy Crest before being transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he died.

Starcom Network News understands the suspect in custody is a 15 year old school mate of the victim.

The other individuals the police are seeking to interview in relation to Saturday night’s incident are also said to be school boys.

Meantime, the Barbados Union of Teachers says teachers are growing increasingly concerned about the level of violent behaviour they are seeing among secondary school children.

General Secretary of the BUT Herbert Gittens, tells Starcom Network News, a trend of violence in the society is spreading to the school environment.
Mr. Gittens, who is also a school principal, is worried.

 

He believes what’s happening in schools is a reflection of the general society.
