Barbados Public Workers Cooperative Credit Union and its subsidiary Capita Finance are proposing to take legal action against activist Patrick King over controversial statements about the financial institutions.
Mr. King, a frequent campaigner on various issues on social media and radio call in programs, confirms to Starcom Network News that he was hand delivered a letter today (Monday) from law firm Lex Caribbean on behalf of Public Workers Credit Union and Capita.
But his comments to Starcom indicated no intention of backing down at this stage.
Among other things, the letter demands that Mr. King withdraws and apologises for the statements made on Facebook and in Whatsapp voice notes, gives a commitment to not repeat the statements and to pay an appropriate sum to the offended parties to compensate for what the letter says is the damage done to their reputations.
The letter gave Mr. King until 7 pm tonight (Monday) to indicate his willingness to comply with the demands otherwise legal action would be commenced in the high court.
Mr. King was also warned against proceeding with the announced plan to make a Facebook live post on the contentious matters Tuesday morning.
However, the activist in speaking to Starcom Network News appeared defiant and noted that he had posted the letter from Lex Caribbean on his Facebook page.
