Chair of the Barbados Private Sector Association, Tricia Tannis, is heartened by the Central Bank’s prediction of double digit economic growth this year but is worried about the fallout from the continuing covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine.
Central Bank Governor Cleviston Haynes recently reported that the economic rebound that commenced last year has continued into 2022.
Mrs. Tannis notes that the recovery of the tourism sector has been critical to the economic upswing.
Mrs. Tannis says the sector notes the risks still posed by the covid-19 pandemic as well as the conflict overseas that has resulted in rising prices.
Meantime, President of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Anthony Branker, believes the country is heading in the right direction economically, based on the latest economic outlook from the Central Bank.
But Mr. Branker is worried about the current covid numbers.
