UWI Brand Going Global

The University of the West Indies has announced its going global with a new online teaching platform and is also overhauling its finances and funding model with governments urged to meet at least half of the UWI’s costs.

This was stated as Vice Chancellor, Professor Sir Hillary Beckles, delivered his annual report at the university’s council meeting this morning.

Sir Hillary says the university has achieved key goals during the past year such as ranking among the top 1.5 per cent of universities globally, hitting the target of cutting spending by ten percent and reducing government debt to the UWI which is also now working on overhauling its pension scheme.

Sir Hillary outlined a plan to take the UWI brand global.

Sir Hillary believes they have found the solution to the funding problems of the regional institution but wants governments to cover half of their costs.
