Minibus driver shot and robbed

A minibus driver is hospitalized in grave condition after being shot twice in the head and robbed on Wednesday night.

The police confirmed that the victim is 56 year old Victor Walton of 2nd Avenue, Haynesville, St. James.

The police received a call about 7: 32 Wednesday night and responded to what they at first thought was a bus accident as the vehicle had crashed into a tree after the incapacitated driver lost control.

The vehicle was B359 and the incident occurred at Husbands Road, St. Lucy at its junction with Maycock’s Terrace.

Indications are that an individual, who had been a passenger on the bus, shot the driver, took his money and escaped.

The victim who is known by colleagues as Preacher Man was transported to hospital where x-rays confirmed two bullet wounds to the head.

His sister Juliet Walton tells Starcom Network News that the family is devastated over what occurred. She says her brother was a quiet and deeply religious man.

David Bynoe, one of the directors of the Association of Public Transport Operators, tells Starcom Network News  the attack highlights the threats that are out there.
