Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Indar Weir, expects Barbadian consumers to be spared a hike in the price of meat and poultry after talks over an expected hike in the price of animal feed.
Mr. Weir reported to Starcom Network on the outcome of separate talks with farmers groups and the lone local feed manufacturer Pinnacle Feeds.
The talks were convened as a feed price subsidy to keep food prices down was expiring.
Mr. Weir says a temporary subsidy will continue but over the longer term there are plans to try to reduce operating costs for both the farmers and the feed plant.
