NIS staff off the job

Staff of the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) walked off the job today over a number of grievances including a plan to make the NIS a statutory board and also covid-19 protocols at the state agency following the positive test of an employee.

A notice posted on the NIS’s social media page states that a staff member whose most recent day at work was March 16th has tested positive for covid-19.

Starcom Network News understands that the employee is now in isolation at the Harrison Point facility.

Officials of the National Union of Public Workers including the President Akanni McDowall and acting general secretary Wayne Waldrond, met with the NIS staff and were due to meet with management.

Mr. McDowall told Starcom Network News about the main concerns.

The proposed switch to a statutory board another major worry.

General Secretary of the Unity Workers Union also spoke to some of the NIS employees.
