UPDATE: Schoolboy stabbed to death

A minor is in police custody after the stabbing death of a 16-year-old schoolboy at the Frederick Smith Secondary School today.

Our Akeel Lovell reports.

President of the Barbados Secondary Teachers Union, Mary-Ann Redman, says it’s a shocking wake up call for those within schools who have been reluctant to face up to the magnitude of the problem.

Meantime, Education Minister Santia Bradshaw says she is deeply saddened over the stabbing death. Speaking to the media at the school this evening after a meeting with the teachers, she said there will be a need to ramp up additional resources in light of this incident.

When asked whether additional security measures would be put in place such as metal detectors she had this to say.
