Man smuggled nearly three million dollars worth of cocaine out of Barbados hidden in wheelchair

A man has been charged with drug smuggling cocaine out of Barbados into the UK, following a National Crime Agency investigation.

Nearly three million Barbados dollars’ worth of cocaine was found hidden in an electric wheelchair occupied by Casimiro De Lemos Francisco age 56, who was stopped at Manchester Airport in England on Sunday after he arrived on a flight from the Grantley Adams International Airport.

Border Force officers scanned the wheelchair, which contained 11 packages, weighing 12 kilograms, concealed in the seat and backrest.

De Lemos Francisco, a Portuguese national, was remanded into prison after appearing today at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court and will appear next at Manchester Crown Court on May 6, 2025.
