Police fire shots/take man and car into custody

The police have taken a man and a vehicle into their custody after a car chase in which the officers fired shots.

The Barbados Police Service made the disclosure in a statement in which they seek to clarify what they describe as misinformation pertaining to a shooting incident earlier today.

The police deny that officers were shot at during an incident at Cowell Street, Bridgetown, which is in the vicinity of Jubilee Gardens.

The police say the reports have been circulated on social media and by word of mouth but are not factual.

The police statement says that officers were conducting a traffic operation within the city area when a series of events led to a pursuit of a motor vehicle by police.

The statement adds that police had reason to fire shots, but no one was injured, and a motor vehicle and a male are in custody.
