A pedestrian has been killed in a hit and run traffic accident in the early hours of this morning.
A news release from the Barbados Police Service says that at about 1:20 am officers responded to the scene of a road traffic fatality where a 64 year old male pedestrian was struck and died on the spot.
The scene was about 1:50 meters south of the Clyde Walcott roundabout along the stretch of road known as Waterford Boulevard, St. Michael, known as Waterford Bottom, between the Combermere School and the roundabout on the highway.
The police say they received the information via a telephone call and responded to the scene.
When the officers arrived ambulance personnel were already onsite and had examined the individual and found no sign of life.
Further investigations revealed that the pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle which failed to remain at the scene.
The deceased has been identified as 64 year old Cedric Beckles of Golden Rock, The Pine, St. Michael.
The police are appealing for the assistance of anyone who may have information about the circumstances surrounding this incident.
