The increase in the price of eggs due to take effect today has been halted through the intervention of Agriculture Minister, Indar Weir.
The main local supplier of poultry products, Chickmont Foods Limited, had issued a circular to customers last week informing them that due to a local shortage they have imported one million eggs to satisfy local demand for the rest of the year.
The company also said there would be a price increase of eight cents per egg from today.
However, Mr. Weir tells Starcom Network News he has spoken to the CEO of Chickmont, Peter Defreitas, and the proposed increase will no longer take place.
