Gun crisis, says Willoughby

Director of government’s Criminal Justice Research and Planning Unit, Cheryl Willoughby, believes the level of gun violence perpetrated by young people in this country is now at crisis proportions.

She wants a system put in place to spot and address these tendencies while the youngsters are still in school.

Miss Willoughby was speaking during a webinar on the findings of a study on recidivism, which is the tendency of criminals to re-offend after being released from prison.

She noted that there was yet another gun killing yesterday and is concerned that many of the perpetrators are just teenagers.

Mrs. Willoughby believes there would be early signs in the school or at home that these young people are at risk and those tendencies need to be flagged and interventions made.
