BSTU wants school for violent students/Security searches at Alexandra after stabbing

President of The Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union, Mary-Anne Redman wants a special school set up for violent students.

She was speaking after a tour of the Alexandra School where a student stabbed another schoolboy yesterday during an altercation.

Ms. Redman believes there is also a need for a residential institution to house students who require further attention.

She supports searches at the gate.

Meanwhile the Acting Deputy Chief Education Officer, Julia Beckles, confirmed that additional security measures have been instituted at the school.

Democratic Labour Party spokesperson on education Felicia Dujon takes issue with how the matter at Alexandra is being handled. She complained about the long lines outside the school as a result of the searches.
