PM announces new crime council/crime fighting measures

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has announced the establishment of an Advisory Council on Citizen Security to draft a national strategy to reduce crime.

Speaking during a news briefing at Ilaro Court, Miss Mottley also disclosed that the man who was the primary target of the mass shooting at Nelson Street, but who escaped, has surrendered to police.

It was also revealed that another shooting suspect who was being sought by police sought to flee the country and left by air for Canada.

He is now in the custody of Canadian police.

Prime Minister Mottley warns that people who think they can evade capture will not be allowed to escape justice.

She also announced a number of crime fighting measures including the banning of dark tint on vehicles and the wearing of balaclava face masks and T-shirts on the face.

There will also be tighter regulation of hired cars including possible confiscation of cars used in crimes, stricter controls on who can make license plates and the requirement of a license to import 3-D printers and periodic inspection of such printers.
