Warehouse gutted in City blaze

A large commercial warehouse in Bridgetown has been gutted by a fire, but quick action by the Barbados Fire Service prevented the blaze from spreading to nearby homes in the densely populated area.

Chief Fire Officer, Errol Maynard, briefed journalists at the scene of the fire that destroyed the bond of the Builders Value Mart at Reed Street, around 9:30 this morning.

The roof of a nearby house suffered slight fire damage.

Residents told Starcom Network News of hearing several loud explosions and seeing the bond go up in flames.

Meanwhile, a tearful Mrs. Ram Mirchandani, who is the owner of the warehouse, says this is another in a series of misfortunes.

She says she’s glad no one was injured and gave the assurance that there would be no job losses.
