Govt denies Thorne claims about road repairs

Government has been defending its mill and pave road repair program in the face of criticism from Opposition Leader Ralph Thorne who alleged that the south coast repairs are politically motivated and are a temporary fix that may have to be dug up.

He was speaking as the House of Assembly debated and then passed amendments to this country’s tax laws.

Mfr. Thorne challenged Senior Minister Responsible for Infrastructural Projects, Dr. William Duguid, on the issue of the road repair program.

The claim was denied by Dr. Duguid.

Mr. Thorne also alleged that the south coast road repairs are motivated by political considerations.

But Minister in the Ministry of Finance, Ryan Straughn, also dismissed that allegation explaining that weather conditions and specifically the intense rains of last year, made it necessary to delay the road works.
