Barbados bans cow imports

Barbados authorities have banned the importation of cows from the United States for the time being.

This is due to an outbreak of Bird Flu in the US that has caught scientists by surprise by infecting cattle.

Barbadians farmers have been importing heifers from the US for breeding purposes.

Chief Executive Officer of the Barbados Agricultural Society James Paul confirms the development and says alternative sources will have to be found.

Mr. Paul says it would be reckless to continue to import US cows and he also warns the public of the danger of smuggling meat into the country.
