Govt defends Oistins project as Thorne pledges probe

Opposition leader, Ralph Thorne, wants to launch a public accounts committee probe into the near five million dollar Oistins Bay Garden renovation project as government insists the project is part of a plan approved under the previous Democratic Labour Party administration and has been put out to tender through a transparent process.

Mr. Thorne raised concerns about the project as the House of Assembly debated temporary laws to facilitate security and operations for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup.

The Opposition leader described the expenditure on the Oistins project as a political subsidy and declared that government will be held to account.

But Dr. William Duguid, MP for Christ Church West and Senior Minister in charge of infrastructural projects countered Mr. Thorne’s claims.

Dr. Duguid detailed the work to be done.
