This country’s business sector reports overall reasonably good sales for the Christmas period so far but believe some sales especially on big ticket items were affected by consumers waiting for the VAT-Free Day that never came.
President of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry, James Clarke, tells Starcom Network News, that in the absence of VAT-free some businesses have put on sales to encourage purchases.
Mr. Clarke also warns that international supply chain challenges may drive up shipping costs in the New Year and it may take a lot longer for goods to arrive.

The absence of the VAT-Free is believed to have slowed some sales especially on big ticket items, but Marketing Director of Carters Stores, Bryan Hurley expects the payments of tax refunds by government will put more money into circulation and boost sales.
