Local insurance companies report a recent spike in serious accidents, involving fatalities or extensive damage to vehicles and it’s a major worry for the sector.
President of the General Insurance Association of Barbados, Randy Graham, says since the country opened back up post-covid lockdown the accident rate has been steady at about a hundred plus accidents per month.
But major accidents involving deaths and write-offs have increased recently.
Mr. Graham believes a lot of these crashes occur because drivers aren’t paying attention, often being on their phones for example.
