NHC Staff off the Job Due to Chemical Odor

Government workers housed in the National Housing Corporation building at Country Road, St. Michael are off the job due to an odor caused by a pest control treatment.

This includes staff of the NHC and the wider Ministry of Housing.

The staff turned up for work this morning but then returned home and several could be seen gathered outside the building before they departed.

General Secretary of the National Union of Public Workers, Richard Greene, tells Starcom Network News the pest control treatment was to deal with what was perceived to be a bug problem.

This morning the workers complained that the chemical sent was still lingering in the building and they couldn’t work in those conditions.

But Mr. Greene notes that while the pest control people found evidence of ants there appeared to be no trace of a particularly problematic bug that was the source of the original complaint.
