Alarm Over Sweet Drink Consumption

A school nutrition expert describes as alarming the number of sweet drinks consumed by this country’s school children.

And, she makes a connection with what she terms the astronomical amount of money being spent treating diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.

Hedda Phillips-Boyce, the Education Officer with responsibility for healthy initiatives and nutrition in schools was speaking on VOB’s Down to Brasstacks call-in program during a discussion on the new Barbados School Nutrition Policy

Mrs. Phillips-Boyce, a member of the nutrition policy implementation committee sees great cause for concern.

She detailed the extent of sweet drink consumption.
