A fire has destroyed a bond warehouse at Brightons Black Rock while affecting businesses and residents in the area.
Police Operations Control were alerted by the Barbados Fire service about a building fire at a commercial property situated along the Mighty Grynner Highway, St.Michael.
The call was received about 5:49 am. A report from the fire service indicated that they were advised that the fire was suspected to be one where unknown chemicals were involved hence activating a formal HAZMAT (Hazardous Materials) response.
Both Police and fire personnel canvassed the residential area located downwind to warn and evacuate residents in the area to avoid any inhalation of smoke.

Meanwhile, Residents of Brightons Black Rock voiced their concern on the fire which occurred early this morning.
One man who lives nearby told Starcom Network News of his part to secure his home.

The Ellerslie and St. Stephens school dismissed students early due to smoke residue on the highway.
The National Conservation Commission beach facility and lifeguard tower at Brandon’s beach was also closed as a result of the fire.
