Massive renewable energy push

As global energy prices spiral, government is planning a massive switch to renewal energy that it says will attract 2.5 billion dollars in investment.

Minister of Energy and Business Development Kerrie Symmonds, the senior minister coordinating the productive sector, has told Parliament the plan will also see the state-owned Barbados National Oil Company switching from fossil fuels to renewable energy generation.

He was speaking as the House of Assembly debated a resolution to lease 14 acres of land at Fairy Valley, Christ Church to the BNOC for construction of a photovoltaic plant.

Mr. Symmonds also disclosed that there will be a major renewable energy partnership involving the government, the Barbados Workers and Emera, the Canadian-company that owns Barbados Light and Power.
