Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Lisa Cummins, wants diversification of Barbados’ tourism markets beyond the UK and Europe to make the sector more resilient, especially in light of the war in the Ukraine.
She was speaking virtually this morning at the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association’s 1st Quarterly General meeting for the year.
Miss Cummins believes this diversification is essential to lessen any possible impact from the conflict in Europe.
The tourism minister spoke of plans to have tourism traffic coming to Barbados from Mid-Eastern countries, Africa, Quebec, Canada and Argentina in the near future.
She feels, however, that focus needs to be on attracting more traffic from the United States.
