Calls for cashless system after PSV robbery

The robbery and shooting of a minibus driver has prompted the Association of Public Transport Operators, APTO, to renew their call for government to implement a cashless system for public transport.

This follows the attack in which fifty-six year-old Victor “preacher man” Walton of 2nd Avenue, Haynesville, St. James, was shot twice in the head  and robbed of his cash last Wednesday night.  He is currently recovering in hospital.

Chairman of the Association of Public Transport Operators Kenneth Best says that for years they have been urging government to implement the cashless system to deter criminals.

He stressed the need for government to act on the proposal as soon as possible.
